Advice For Small Businesses Just Starting Out

If you were asked what advice you would give to a small business that is just starting out, what would that advice be?

As someone who has been working with small businesses exclusively for the past 6 years, I would like to offer you some of my own advice. As an accountant, I am able to see the details and all the bells and whistles that belong to all of my clients. So, I hope that my advice helps you out in some way.

I have three things that I would like to give as advice.

First, simplify your business.

Sometimes the simplest way is the best way. No egos here! There is no need to over-complicate and be over complex when setting up and running your business. Clients like to have clear, understandable options to solve their needs and concerns. They do not want a confusing, complicated sales process and products. Clients usually just want to know what you can do for them and how much it will cost! No need to flex your intellectual muscle and show them how smart you are, just give the client what they want in a simple, enjoyable setting!

Second, organize your business.

Start your business with good habits in organization. If you have bad habits, change them now! Ask for others to help you! Get your books organized from day one! Don’t wait till you are behind and overwhelmed before you do something!

Getting behind or not being organized financially is complete disaster for your new business!

Third, create systems for your business.

If you do not want to have chaos and disorganization in your business, then you better set up systems! Systems provide consistent, predictable results every time. Properly developed systems are easily manageable and allow you as the owner to leverage your time and talents. Systems are essential to long term growth!

Starting any small business isn’t easy, but it can be very rewarding. Having started and owned many small businesses, I truly love it! Business can be fun if you do it right!
